Woman charged with illegal DXM sales

Yamila Abraham faces prison time and fines for allegedly selling dextromethorphan hydrobromide as a misbranded "herbal alternative" to street drugs. The U.S. district attorney for Nevada alleges said Sept. 21 Abraham sold the misbranded drug as "Snurf," leading to four 10th graders being hospitalized in September 2008. Police suspected the pills contained DXM, an active ingredient in OTC cough suppressants. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said the hospitalization bolstered the need for legislation to restrict bulk DXM sales.
