Canada’s fragile off-patent industry requires major moves to protect the domestic and international supply chain, a detailed new report has concluded. Encouraging onshoring and providing enhanced incentives are two solutions proposed by the study, as well as greater international regulatory alignment and more “appropriate” procurement strategies.

Major changes are needed to protect Canada’s generics and biosimilars market from supply-chain disruption and cost pressures that are “increasing the fragility of the domestic industry,” according to a detailed new report by EY Canada commissioned by the Canadian Generic Pharmaceutical Association.
