How much physician “work” is required for the application of genetic tests will determine how CMS begins reimbursing for more than 100 assays in 2013.

Do genetic testing services require significant “work” on the part of ordering and interpreting physicians, or are they purely in the domain of clinical laboratory professionals? The answer to that question will be at the core of CMS’ upcoming decision on how to pay for this expanding category of diagnostics.
