CMS issued a proposed decision memo June 27 to remove the certification requirement for facilities that perform bariatric surgery to treat morbid obesity. In the memo, which came about a month ahead of the expected release date, the agency states that continuing the certification requirement would not improve health outcomes for Medicare beneficiaries according to available evidence.
