Industry trade groups last week trumpeted the reintroduction of bills in Congress to repeal the device excise tax. In the House, the “Protect Medical Innovation Act,” was introduced Feb. 6 by Reps. Erik Paulsen, R-Minn. and Ron Kind, D-Wis., with more than 175 cosponsors, including 20 Democrats. In the Senate, on Feb. 7, Sens. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., introduced the “Medical Device Access and Innovation Protection Act,” with seven bipartisan cosponsors.
