Canon Reaches Agreement To Buy Toshiba Medical For Almost $6 Billion

Canon’s Medical Imaging Group, which specializes in digital radiography and ophthalmic imaging, is one of the company’s smallest units, so the acquisition of Toshiba Medical Systems will make it a much bigger player in the space.

Canon will acquire Toshiba Medical Systems (TMSC) from Toshiba for $5.99 billion (¥665.5 billion), the companies announced March 17, about a week after Canon secured exclusive rights to negotiate a deal for Toshiba’s embattled medical technology unit.
