Canon will acquire Toshiba Medical Systems (TMSC) from Toshiba for $5.99 billion (¥665.5 billion), the companies announced March 17, about a week after Canon secured exclusive rights to negotiate a deal for Toshiba’s embattled medical technology unit.
Canon’s Medical Imaging Group, which specializes in digital radiography and ophthalmic imaging, is one of the company’s smallest units, so the acquisition of TMSC will make it a much bigger player in the space
