Aspect Medical Systems Inc. is evaluating several new applications for its Bispectral Index (BIS) technology, an EEG-based brain monitoring technology that is currently used to measure the depth of anesthesia during surgery. In May and June, the company reported interim results from three ongoing clinical trials that are evaluating the BIS technology for use in monitoring treatment response to anti-depressant medications, and as a method of evaluating cognitive function in the elderly.
