Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in both men and women according to 2014 statistics from the American Cancer Society (ACS). An estimated 136,830 people in the US will be newly diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2014 and about 50,310 are projected to die of the disease. Yet, only 59% of people aged 50 or older have been screened as recommended by current guidelines according to the National Health Interview Survey in 2010.
