The explosion of endovascular and percutaneous procedures being performed today by surgeons and interventionalists has triggered the growth of a new device niche, arterial puncture closure devices. The surgical cutdowns and percutaneous arteriotomies in the femoral artery generated during interventional radiology, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as angiograms, angioplasty, stenting and thrombolytic delivery have resulted in a $1.3 billion market. Nearly seven million of these procedures are performed worldwide annually, of them three million are performed in the US.
