Japanese guidewire specialist Asahi Intecc has teamed up with Israeli intra-body navigational technology developer MediGuide to develop and market a new guidewire called G-Wire. The companies will combine Asahi's know-how in improving the torque performance of guidewires and Haifa-based MediGuide's gMPS navigation technology to produce a device that would allow doctors to visually track the actual orientation and the 3D spatial tip position of the wire, while manipulating it in real time. This new functionality will be useful in procedures for treating complex lesions such as chronic total occlusions, which require accurate wire manipulation, said the companies. Aside from Aichi-based Asahi, other companies that have taken on MediGuide's gMPS technology into their devices include Medtronic, Philips and Boston Scientific.
