Karl Storz Endoscopy-America (El Segundo, California) and remote presence specialist InTouch Health are set to develop technology designed to provide remote surgeons with the ability to monitor surgical procedures. Under a definitive agreement, InTouch will adapt its remote presence technology into a telemonitoring device that will be compatible with Karl Storz’s OR1 integrated operating room system. The combined technology, which will be called VisitOR1, will also be compatible with Santa Barbara, California-based InTouch’s RP-7 remote presence robotic system, enabling physicians to connect to hospital emergency departments, critical care units and the operating room from a remote location.
