Spiration, Olympus to make valve system available in Japan

Lung therapy company Spiration is set to take its IBV valve system for the treatment of emphysema and prolonged air leaks to the Japanese market with the help of Olympus Medical Systems. The two firms have signed an exclusive development and distribution deal which will see Olympus foot the bill for all the required Japanese clinical trials and file the necessary government applications to market the device. Financial terms were not disclosed. Spiration (Redmond, Washington) has a distribution partnership with Olympus for the minimally-invasive system in Europe, which was signed in May (see Clinica No 1307, p 18).
