The Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) is urging the provincial Canadian government to continue using the Alternative Financing and Procurement (AFP) strategy to build, expand and upgrade hospitals. The strategy uses private sector funding and expertise with the public sector owning the finished product. "By harnessing private sector capital and expertise, hospitals can move forwards quickly," said OHA's president and CEO Hilary Short. "Without this approach, many communities would simply not get the funding they need to improve their hospitals," she warned. The OHA estimates that Ontario hospital redevelopment costs amount to approximately Can$8bn (US$6.8bn).
