The US stem cell bank Cryo-Cell International has paid $1.8 million to secure a 21.9% direct ownership of Cryo-Cell Italia, a subsidiary of Cryo-Cell Europe. The companies store stem cells taken from babies' umbilical cords for possible later use in autologous transfusions. Last year Florida-based Cryo-Cell International also paid $1 million for a 6% holding in Cryo-Cell Europe.
