Computer Motion has filed a lawsuit against its rival Intuitive Surgical, claiming that technology in Intuitive's da Vinci device infringes its patents. The companies are locked in a battle for supremacy in the computer-assisted minimally invasive surgery market. Intuitive's da Vinci comprises both the surgeon's console and its EndoWrist computer enhanced mechanical wrists. Computer Motion has just received equity investment and orders from its new Japanese distributor, Kino, than could total more than $28 million over the next eight years.
