Kimberly-Clark Corp. and its spinoff Halyard Health Inc. plan to appeal after a California federal jury awarded more than $450m in a class-action suit involving MicroCool surgical gowns.
The plaintiff, Bahamas Surgery Center, filed suit on behalf of 500,000 health workers in 2014 alleging that Kimberly-Clark Corp., which spun off Halyard that same year as a standalone health-products company to market the gowns and other devices, falsely claimed that its MicroCool and other surgical gowns offered protection against the Ebola virus. California allowed the case to proceed as a class-action suit last November
