Less-invasive mitral valve and tricuspid valve repair is the next major for valve technology now that transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) systems, like Edwards' market-leading Sapien line, are rapidly taking market share from surgical valves, and is being pursued both by the major surgical valve companies, Edwards and Medtronic PLC as well as small start-ups like 4C Medical Technologies and MVRx, Inc. But Abbott Laboratories Inc.'s MitraClip is the only FDA-approved transcatheter mitral repair device.
