Podcast: Fixing Reimbursement ‘Valley Of Death’ And Repealing The Device Tax Are Top MDMA Priorities, CEO Leahey Says

In an interview about medical device lobbying priorities, the Medical Device Manufacturers Association CEO Mark Leahey talked about efforts to figure out administrative and potentially legislative solutions to gain reimbursement for products sooner after FDA approval. Leahey also argues industry groups are in a better position to permanently repeal the 2.3% medical device excise tax despite previous failures to do so.

One of the medtech industry's top lobbyists emphasized device tax repeal efforts and speeding the path to reimbursement as two major priorities in the coming year in a recent interview with Medtech Insight.

Mark Leahey, CEO of the Medical Device Manufacturers Association, also talked about Commissioner Scott Gottlieb’s recent decision to step down to spend more time with his family. Leahey thanked the commissioner for his service, particular on issues such as the opioid epidemic and opening up opportunities for device makers to help address the issue. Also, noting that he is a father of young children himself, Leahey commended the commissioner for working to prevent children having access to e-cigarettes despite the issue being a political pitfall
