J&J Awaits Verdict In California Pelvic Mesh Trial

An $800m lawsuit filed by the state of California against Johnson & Johnson for alleged fraudulent marketing of pelvic mesh products is in the hands of a state judge after the conclusion of a 10-week trial. This is the first lawsuit brought by a state against a pelvic mesh manufacturer to go to trial.

The first pelvic mesh product liability case to be brought by a state is awaiting the verdict of a California state judge, following the conclusion of a 10-week trial in San Diego County Superior Court.

State Attorney General Xavier Beccera is asking for $800m in penalties against Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Ethicon Endo-Surgery Inc.. The state says J&J violated unfair competition and false advertising laws by misleading physicians and patients about the full risks of pelvic mesh
