David Shulkin, former secretary of the US Department of Veterans Affairs, wrote in a recent blog post “the truth is that almost always, pandemics just don’t come and go,” noting that the 1918 flu outbreak came in three waves, the 1957 and 1969 influenza outbreaks had two large second waves.
