It’s good news for the medtech industry as medical device manufacturers initiated fewer recalls in the third quarter of 2020. There were 242 corrections and removals in Q3, compared to 341 in Q2 – a drop of 29%. Further, industry recalled 22,951,964 units in Q3, a 22% decrease from Q2, when 29,405,138 units were yanked from the market. But consulting firm Stericycle has a warning in its most recent recalls index: “Despite this drop, the quarterly average for 2020 remains higher than 2019. This puts the industry on track to experience about 1,100 recalls by year end, compared with 884 recalls in 2019.”
