New Digital Strategy For Germany, But Health Care Is Still Playing Catch-up

A renewed attempt by Germany to press its digital leadership credentials has drawn a muted reaction in health care circles.

The new digital strategy to carry Germany into the future has been finally been adopted by the government, having been delayed by several months. It was launched on 31 August by the cabinet of the “traffic light” coalition at a late summer government retreat meeting hosted by Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The strategy intends to ensure that, by 2025, at least 80% of health care system users will be using electronic patient records. EPRs are seen as the central element of care delivery in Germany in the future
