GOP Lawmakers Want Briefing On $1.3Bn Spent On Chinese COVID-19 Tests

A letter sent by 13 House Committee on Oversight and Reform members to HHS Sec. Xavier Becerra asks for information on purchases of tests made overseas, as well as efforts to develop and manufacture diagnostics for future infectious disease outbreaks within the US.

Congressional Republicans are pressing the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to account for why the government is buying COVID-19 testing kits from China, rather than investing in domestically produced diagnostics.

Thirteen Republican members of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform signed the 19 October letter to HHS Sec. Xavier Becerra, which asks for information about the $1.3bn reportedly spent on Chinese COVID-19 tests since the pandemic began
