EU AI Act Proposal Adopted By Parliament In Landslide Plenary Vote

The European Commission’s proposed Artificial Intelligence Act is now set to enter high-level negotiations after MEPs voted overwhelmingly in favor of the draft text in a plenary vote.

The European Parliament has today (14 June) endorsed a draft mandate that will form the basis of EU-wide legislation on AI. In total, 499 MEPs voted in favor of the overall proposal, 28 against, while 93 abstained.

It follows a positive vote from members of the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) and the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) Committees on 11 May, in which the committees voted in favor of 13 overarching amendments made to the original proposal, resulting in a compromise text
