DEP's SALE OF COMPOZ TO MEDTECH LABS continues the company's sell-off of OTC drug products acquired in the purchase of Jeffrey Martin. Medtech, an H&BA and OTC drug distributor, said in an Aug. 17 release that it "has acquired Compoz Night-time Sleep Aid from DEP Corporation." Medtech said that it plans to market Compoz "through drug, food and mass merchandisers in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. After acquiring Jeffrey Martin in January, DEP sold Doan's Backache Pills to Ciba-Geigy for $34.4 mil in March ("The Pink Sheet" March 30, T&G-1). DEP also received an extra $600,000 for selling the international trademark rights for Doan's to Ciba-Geigy. The sale of Compoz was for about $1.3 mil., DEP said, adding that it recently signed a letter of intent to sell the OTC smoking deterrent Bantron. The firm expects to complete the deal next week and anticipates getting $1 mil. for Bantron. Remaining in the OTC drug area is Jeffrey Martin's appetite suppressant product, Ayds. With the sale of most of the OTC drug products, DEP still has Jeffrey Martin's health and beauty aids. That line includes Lavoris mouth wash, Topol Smoker's Toothpolish, Cuticura medicated soap and Porcelana fade cream. Cody, Wyoming-based Medtech's products include: New Skin, a liquid bandage, Nudit hair remover, Mosco foot care products and Tear Guard artifical tear.
