FDA’s Hand-Held Rx Counterfeit Detector Could Roll Out To Developing Nations

Agency meets with USAID stakeholders and wants to maximize the public health impact of its hand-held counterfeit drug detection device, which allows for quick preliminary screening of drug shipments to determine if counterfeit or adulterated product is present.

FDA could give its hand-held counterfeit drug detection device to foreign regulators, likely in an effort to boost global supply chain security, just as it is widely deployed at the U.S. border to boost import security.

It also may help improve efforts to track drug shipments across the domestic supply chain while the agency and Congress continue to work on new tracking standards.
