CMS Considering Part D Plan Partnerships With Medicare ACOs

The agency is considering an “incentive model” that would allow Medicare’s accountable care organizations to collaborate with Part D plans, CMS Deputy Administrator Patrick Conway says.

CMS is considering ways to allow stand-alone Medicare Part D plans to partner with accountable care organizations so that outpatient drug use and costs can be managed by the ACO, according to Patrick Conway, deputy administrator for Innovation and Quality and CMS chief medical officer.
