Aetna Cancer Pathways Program Aims For 'Value-Based' Prescribing

“For many malignancies, there is no ‘best treatment’ but there may be tremendous differences in cost,” Aetna National Medical Director, Oncology Solutions Michael Kolodziej says.

Aetna Inc. is rolling out a cancer care pathways program nationally that is expected to save an average of 5% to 10% in drug costs per individual patient treatment plan, according to the insurer.

The program is being expanded nationally by Aetna in collaboration with cancer care management company New Century Health. It is scheduled to be in operation in more than 30 states...
