GNC consumer survey: More than half (66%, or 234) of the 358 participants in a nationwide telephone survey of women ages 18-65 reported that they take vitamins or nutritional supplements. Nearly three-fourths of the 234, (71%) said they take multivitamins, 40% take individual vitamins, 13% minerals, 11% herbs and 11% some other supplement. In the same group, 38% purchase supplements at drug stores, 26% in grocery stores, 17% in discount or health stores, 7% at GNC, 5% through mail order, and 1% from door-to-door salespeople.
