GNC SELECTED RETAIL PRICE REDUCTIONS PLANNED FOR SEPTEMBER START-UP in a strategy addressing price-oriented competition from mass market and discount outlets. The dietary supplement specialty retailer will begin discounting a rotating collection of eight to 12 basic vitamin products, including vitamins B, C and E, by up to 40% in each of its 3,700-plus stores this fall. Periodic price reductions on the "commodity"-type products also are expected to help increase store traffic.
