Supplements, cosmetics and body care producers and handlers "could be certified" under USDA final rule establishing national standards for organic ingredients and products. Published in the Dec. 21 Federal Register, the reg states makers and suppliers of agricultural items "might find an increased market value for their products because of the additional assurance afforded by certification." However, USDA adds dietary supplement labeling is "outside the scope of these regulations," meaning such products likely would not be able to carry the USDA-certified organic seal.
