Pharmacy Interests Back BTC Models For Third Class

Retailers CVS and Walmart, as well as the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, advocate for a central role for pharmacists in enabling a new class of nonprescription drugs. In comments to FDA, NACDS also supports a switch model that will protect the existing OTC class.

Pharmacists should play a central role in a new class of nonprescription drugs, CVS Health Corp., [Wal-Mart Stores Inc.] and the National Association of Chain Drug Stores say in comments on FDA’s consideration of a new paradigm for switches.

The retailers and the industry group support the agency’s interest in making more drugs available without prescription via innovative technologies and/or requiring conditions of safe use for approval.
