FTC Sets “New Normal” For Study Data Reviews, Prioritizes Health Product Claims Enforcement

At the National Advertising Division Annual Conference, FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez said health claims and inadequate disclosures top the agency’s priorities following settlements with advertisers in 2013 and the recent Operation Full Disclosure initiative.

The Federal Trade Commission is focusing enforcement on deceptive health claims and improper disclosures while imposing a “new normal” for providing the agency with study data supporting consumer health care product claims, says Chairwoman Edith Ramirez.

FTC “will work to ensure that health claims are backed by real and rigorous evidence, especially when those claims relate to serious health conditions,” Ramirez said during her keynote presentation
