Pharmacy guidance on new UK regulations

Interim guidance on the disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste in the UK has been published by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain1. The two sets of guidance, designed specifically for primary care and hospital pharmacists, complement and provide more pharmaceutical-specific information on new hazardous waste regulations which came into force in England and Wales on 16 July 20052-4. Under the regulations, only those prescription only medicines that are classified as cytotoxic and cytostatic medicines will be hazardous waste.
