India's uniform code for pharmaceuticals marketing practices, so far voluntary in nature, appears to be on course to becoming "statutory" and "mandatory", signaling some potential short-term turbulence in the growing domestic market.

The 50th annual general meeting of the Organization of Pharmaceutical Producers of India in Mumbai saw an eclectic mix of leaders from academia, politics, bureaucracy and industry in full attendance. The OPPI primarily represents multinational firms in the country.
