Former US Food and Drug Administration commissioner Scott Gottlieb wants the pharma industry to actively help generic entry by facilitating sales of samples for testing – if not because they particularly want to but because doing so is in their long-term interest.

Gottlieb, who has returned to advising brand pharmaceutical companies since departing the FDA, made the recommendation during Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America's Innovation Day event on 25 July
