The US Food and Drug Administration’s top two vaccine officials came out publicly against the need for COVID-19 vaccine boosters in the general population on 13 September, citing inadequate data, continued strong protection of the original vaccine series against severe disease and the ability to save more lives by directing limited vaccine supplies to the unvaccinated around the world – a move that is likely to help the US as well by inhibiting further evolution of the virus.
