Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) has determined the list of eight types of "important infectious disease" to focus on for domestic development of vaccines.

The list, decided by the ministry’s special committee on vaccine on 6 July, 2022, includes respiratory infections such as coronavirus infectious disease (including unknown type); influenza (including both A and B, unknown type); RS virus infectious disease, enterovirus infectious
