Increasing the US National Institutes of Health’s funding of obesity research was one of the only areas of bipartisan agreement among the Senate Health Committee leaders at the 18 October hearing for Monica Bertagnolli to lead the NIH.

Bertagnolli agreed with Chair Bernie Sanders, I-VT, and Ranking Member Bill Cassidy, R-LA, of the importance of this topic, but her vision of how to allocate obesity funding
