AHA REVIEW BY CIR WILL NOT INCLUDE CITRIC ACID because the Cosmetic Ingredient Review expert panel decided to reclassify the ingredient as a beta hydroxy acid based on its poly-hydroxy properties and the fact that it is "not clear" that the ingredient acts as an exfoliant, the panel said at its March 16 meeting in Washington, D.C. The panel listed citric acid as a separate ingredient that will be prioritized for review at its May 22-23 meeting.
