Jade Cosmetics: L'Oreal S.A. has agreed to acquire Hoechst AG's cosmetics subsidiary, the two companies announced June 26. The sale of the Jade business to L'Oreal marks the first step in Hoechst's planned departure from the cosmetics business; Hoechst announced earlier this year it had hired an investment bank to explore its strategic options ("The Rose Sheet" Jan. 30, In Brief). With sales of DM 223 mil. in 1994 and after-tax income of DM 12.8 mil., Jade leads the German makeup category in unit sales and is second in DM sales. L'Oreal says Jade's makeup line will complement L'Oreal's hair care and skin care offerings in Germany. Hoechst said it expects to make additional announcements regarding the sale of its Marbert fragrance, cosmetic and skin care division and Schwarzkopf hair care business within the next three to six months...
