Beiersdorf's Eucerin with Rx topical steroid reduces cost of atopic dermatitis -- study.

EUCERIN USE WITH Rx STEROID FOR ATOPIC DERMATITIS CUTS COSTS BY HALF for consumers by reducing steroid application from twice- to once-daily through the addition of use of the water-in-emollient moisturizer, according to results of a study performed by Anne Lucky, MD, et al., Dermatology Research Associates (Cincinnati, Ohio). Published in the July/August 1997 issue of Pediatric Dermatology, the study evaluated comparative regimens of once-daily application each of prescription hydrocortisone 2.5% cream and Beiersdorf's Eucerin Original creme against twice-daily application of the hydrocortisone treatment in 25 children with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis. Both regimens were found to be of "equivalent" efficacy, according to the study. Rx steroid treatments cost between $10 to $30 per ounce, while water-in-oil moisturizers such as Eucerin average around $1 an ounce, the researchers said.
