Pyrogallol and ferrous sulfate color additive petition withdrawn by Research It! (Henderson, Nev.) for use in hair dyes, FDA announces in the Federal Register July 28. The petition originally was filed on behalf of COPA Distributions Dec. 8, 1998 (1"The Rose Sheet" Dec. 14, 1998, In Brief). The Cosmetic Ingredient Review expert panel found pyrogallol "safe as used" as a hair dye ingredient in its final report in 1992; however, the ingredient is prohibited under the European Cosmetics Directive
