ICCVAM bill

Senate passes ICCVAM Authorization Act Dec. 6 "to establish, wherever feasible, guidelines, recommendations and regulations that promote the regulatory acceptance" of alternative test methods that "protect human and animal health and the environment." The bill, HR 4281, permanently establishes NIH's Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Validation of Alternative Methods to encourage companies and federal agencies "to make the long-term research investments necessary to develop new, revised and alternative toxicology test methods for ICCVAM to review," Sen. Michael DeWine (R-Ohio), who sponsored the bill in the Senate, said during testimony. HR 4281 passed the House Oct. 17 (1"The Rose Sheet" Oct. 23, p. 9)
