“Vegetable-based” petrolatum alternative

German natural ingredient supplier Cremer Care announces availability of "a natural, purely vegetable alternative to petrolatum." Commonly known as petroleum jelly or paraffin jelly, petrolatum has been used in the personal-care industry for roughly 150 years for its moisturizing, soothing and aesthetic benefits in products including bath and hair-care items, sunscreens and makeup. "Relying on fossil oil as the basis of petrolatum is definitively not up-to-date anymore," says Cremer March 31. After several failed attempts at a natural replacement for petrolatum, firm says it has "a real worldwide novelty" in the form of Cremerlin, developed by one of its subsidiaries. Firms seeking natural and organic certification may be particularly interested in the product, which will be displayed for the first time at the "In Cosmetics" exhibition in Munich April 21-23
