Council points out that oxybenzone is deemed safe and effective by European, Canadian and U.S. authorities, as well as Cosmetic Ingredient Review; it additionally contends that EWG lacks the required expertise to evaluate sunscreen products and bases its conclusions on non-peer-reviewed science that "could unnecessarily confuse or alarm consumers.
