Good For You Girls: New Good For You Girls products are ideal back-to-school items for today's "green and natural-savvy" girls, who are "demanding safer products free from [harmful] chemicals," according to July 30 release. Founded by two Connecticut mothers, Good For You Girls cites fall 2008 Environmental Working Group study that identified phthalates, parabens, triclosan and musks in blood and urine samples from 20 teenaged girls, which was concerning because the substances can act as hormone disruptors, the organization said. Products from Good For You Girls are free of phthalates and parabens, as well as petrochemicals, sulfates, dyes and irritants. "As mothers we all try to protect our daughters from chemicals and toxins," says co-founder Grace Hvasta-Petrarca. "Most people don't realize that even minute traces of chemicals can have adverse effects on a young body's development." Brand's Complete Skin Care Kit ($24.99) containing gel cleaner, toner and moisturizer is ideal for girls interested in starting a natural skin-care routine, it says. Products come in recyclable bottles, housed in boxes printed with soy inks
