J&J To Phase Out Quaternium-15 In Baby Shampoo In Response To Demand

While maintaining that its flagship Johnson’s Baby Shampoo and other products are safe, Johnson & Johnson says it is removing “formaldehyde releaser preservatives” from its baby products and minimizing 1,4-dioxane in response to consumer demand.

The announcement comes on the heels of a report from activist group the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, “Baby’s Tub is Still Toxic,” alleging the presence of “cancer-causing” chemicals, such as formaldehyde-releasing quaternium-15 and 1,4-dioxane, in Johnson’s
