L’Oreal Sues Competitors J&J, Merck For Sunscreen Patent Infringement

L’Oreal says competitors Johnson & Johnson and Merck revealed in previous litigation that both use octocrylene to keep the avobenzone in their sunscreen formulas from degrading, representing two cases of willful patent infringement. L’Oreal is suing the companies in Delaware federal court for injunction and damages.
