Council-Approved Cosmetics Safety Bill Launches

Rep. Leonard Lance, R-N.J., introduces the Cosmetic Safety Amendments Act of 2012, with “the full support” of the Personal Care Products Council. Bill would not require manufacturers to substantiate product safety prior to market or pay user fees, but it does include registration, ingredient disclosure and adverse-event reporting requirements and proposes a significant increase in FDA’s oversight role.

The third cosmetics oversight bill to be introduced in the 112th U.S. Congress, the Cosmetic Safety Amendments Act of 2012 has “the full support” of the Personal Care Products Council, encapsulating regulatory improvements industry has been backing for years without enervating a product category that remains one of the safest under FDA’s charge, the trade group says.
